Tooth Whitening at Dental Smiles Chelmsford
At home or in-surgery from £350
Dental whitening is a simple treatment that is an effective and safe way to lighten the colour of your teeth.
Your Tooth Whitening Journey
1. Dental Assessment
The first step on your treatment journey with Dental Smiles Chelmsford is an in-depth consultation. It helps us to assess your teeth, allows us to look over your dental history, and ensures you can discuss your tooth whitening treatment in advance.
2. Moulds of your Teeth
We will take impressions of your teeth so that we can provide you with custom-fitted thin, clear whitening trays.
3. Fit Custom Whitening Trays
We will help fit the custom trays that are used to apply bleaching gel to the teeth.
4. Instructions for use
‘Home whitening’ is the most effective form of whitening treatment. We’ll give you instructions on how to apply bleaching gel to the teeth, so that you can use it every night or day for 7-10 days.
‘In-surgery' whitening may be used to quickly start a course of whitening treatment, and as part of the treatment you also receive a home whitening kit and gels to boost and stabilize the colour change achieved.
5. One Hour Per Day
Whiten at home for an hour a day for 7-10 days. The results look at their best for 2-3 years and it can be easily topped up whenever you feel the need – further whitening gel can be bought as a top-up.

Why have tooth whitening?
Teeth can become dull or stained over time. Teeth whitening is a quick fix that can boost your smile’s brightness by up to six shades, leaving your smile lighter once more.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a fast, effective way to cosmetically brighten and enhance your smile – and we offer two treatment types at-home/in-surgery that can flex around your busy schedule. While long-lasting, it’s not necessarily a permanent solution, especially if you have a diet or lifestyle that leaves you susceptible to staining e.g. drinking coffee or red wine; smoking; poor oral routine.
In some cases, teeth whitening can cause short-term sensitivity, but this should pass. While most people are happy with their results, it is possible for your smile to look ‘too white’ or unnatural, which is why we will always guide you with your treatment. Please note, it won’t whiten existing fillings or crowns on the teeth.
Are there any risks?
The biggest risks come from using an off-the-shelf product or by visiting someone illegally carrying out the treatment (i.e. someone who is not a dentist or dental professional). At best, you may have irregularity with the whitening, and at worst, you could cause severe sensitivity or damage to the teeth (including tooth loss).
